What a season finale it was in Spain! Atletico Madrid came from behind to beat Real Valladolid 2-1 while Real Madrid, their neighbours and closest rivals this season, did the same against Villarreal. This meant that Diego Simeone and his Atleti were crowned Champions of Spain.
In Germany, Robert Lewandowski broke an age-old record as Bayern Munich celebrated their ninth consecutive Bundesliga title in style.

This Atletico Madrid was peak Simeone-ball Atleti. They conceded just 0.66 goals per game on average in La Liga this season, the fewest they have ever averaged in a title-winning campaign.

A big part of that was the man between the sticks. Jan Oblak ended the season with his record-equalling fifth Zamora trophy (awarded to the goalkeeper with the lowest goals-to-games ratio). Oblak is the only non-Spanish goalkeeper to win it five times (the others who have won it five times are Antoni Ramallets and Victor Valdes).

With 30 goals, Messi won the Pichichi Trophy as La Liga top scorer for an unprecedented eighth time. No one else has won more than six, and that was by the great Telmo Zarra, between the mid-40s and the mid-50s.
