Stats: Robert Lewandowski's 41, Luis Suarez's 11, Lionel Messi's 8

What a season finale it was in Spain! Atletico Madrid came from behind to beat Real Valladolid 2-1 while Real Madrid, their neighbours and closest rivals this season, did the same against Villarreal. This meant that Diego Simeone and his Atleti were crowned Champions of Spain.

In Germany, Robert Lewandowski broke an age-old record as Bayern Munich celebrated their ninth consecutive Bundesliga title in style.

Here are the best stats from Saturday's action:

La Liga - Campeones

0.66

This Atletico Madrid was peak Simeone-ball Atleti. They conceded just 0.66 goals per game on average in La Liga this season, the fewest they have ever averaged in a title-winning campaign.

5

A big part of that was the man between the sticks. Jan Oblak ended the season with his record-equalling fifth Zamora trophy (awarded to the goalkeeper with the lowest goals-to-games ratio). Oblak is the only non-Spanish goalkeeper to win it five times (the others who have won it five times are Antoni Ramallets and Victor Valdes).

6

For some context on how close this league race has been, this was just just the sixth time in the three-points-per-win era of La Liga (since 1995-96), that there were two or fewer points between first and second place heading into the final matchday.

8

This was Atleti's eighth title under Diego Simeone in nine years. The two La Liga triumphs (2014 & 2021), two Europa Leagues (2012 & 2018), two UEFA Super Cups (2012 & 2018), Copa del Rey (2013) and Spanish Supercup (2014), are more than any other Atletico manager has ever won.

11

This was Atletico Madrid's 11th La Liga triumph. Only Real Madrid (34) and Barcelona (26) have won more titles. Atleti remain the only club not named Real Madrid or Barcelona to win a La Liga title during the last 17 seasons (they also won in 2013-14).

11

Barcelona had a pivotal role in Atleti's triumphant season -- when they let Luis Suarez go last summer. He joined Atleti and scored 21 goals in the league, 11 of which were game-winning goals. That is the most winners anyone has scored in Europe's top five leagues this season. Lewandowski is second with 10.

78.6

Oblak posted a 78.6% save percentage this league season, the highest percentage by a keeper in Europe's top five leagues (with at least 80 saves made).

86

The 86 points reached by Atletico Madrid are the fewest by a La Liga champion since 2005-06, when Real Madrid won the title with 85 points.

La Liga - Others

2

Huesca have joined Extremadura, Mérida and Lleida as teams to have played two La Liga seasons and been relegated at the end of both (the others who got relegated were Real Valladolid and Eibar).

11

Real Madrid have failed to win a single trophy in a season for the first time since 2009-10, 11 seasons ago.

14

Mr. Celta Vigo -- Iago Aspas -- is the seventh player to score at least 14 goals in each one of the last six seasons after Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Kane, Lewandowski, Mohamed Salah and Suarez.

Bundesliga

3

Bayern Munich are just the third team in Bundesliga history to score in all matches of a single season -- after Koln in 1963-64 (only 30 matchdays) and Bayern themselves in 2012-13.

4

Lewandowski is the first player in the history of the Bundesliga to be awarded the Torjagerkanone (the top scorer) in four consecutive seasons.

11

Erling Haaland has scored 2+ goals for Borussia Dortmund in 11 different games this league season. Only one player has ever scored 2+ goals in more games -- Gerd Muller in 12 in 1971-72.

41

This, though, is the biggest stat of the 2020-21 Bundesliga season. With his tap-in off a rebound in the 91st minute of the last game of the season, Lewandowski broke the great Muller's Bundesliga single-season goal record, set at 40 in 1971-72. That last-minute goal was Lewandowski's 41st of the season.

Lewandowski's 41 goals are the most by a player in Europe's top five leagues since Messi scored 43 in La Liga in the 2014-15 season. LewanGOALski, indeed.

41

Haaland has scored 41 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions for Dortmund this season. At 20, he is the first under-21 player with 40+ goals (across all competitions) in one of Europe's top five leagues since the 2006-07 season. For perspective, Kylian Mbappe and Messi were both 22, Ronaldo was 23, and Lewandowski was 27 when they had their first 40-goal season.

49

A relatively minor stat, but for those familiar with Marco Reus' injury issues across his career, this will bring a smile to your face. Reus featured in 49 matches across all competitions this season for Dortmund -- that's more often than any other Bundesliga player.

Messi-Ronaldo corner

Messi didn't even play, and yet here we are talking about records he has broken or equalled.

5

Messi has joined Jean-Pierre Papin as the only player with five consecutive top scorer trophies in Europe's top five leagues. Papin won his from 1987-88 to 1991-92 with Marseille.

8

With 30 goals, Messi won the Pichichi Trophy as La Liga top scorer for an unprecedented eighth time. No one else has won more than six, and that was by the great Telmo Zarra, between the mid-40s and the mid-50s.

Ronaldo's Juventus play late on Sunday night.
