Bowen on England criticism: We try not to get involved in outside world (1:15)

Jarrod Bowen discusses the mood inside the England camp at Euro 2024 ahead of their final group fixture against Slovenia. (1:15)

Jarrod Bowen has insisted England are staying calm amid mounting criticism of their Euro 2024 performances and urged supporters to stick with the squad in Tuesday's Group C finale against Slovenia.

Gareth Southgate's side top the group after beating Serbia and drawing with Denmark but both performances were a long way short of the level expected by one of the pre-tournament favourites.

Pundits including former England captains Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer were scathing in their assessment of Thursday's game against Denmark, where England scored first through Harry Kane but were left hanging on for a point after Morten Hjulmand's 34th-minute equaliser.

England were booed off by significant numbers of their own supporters inside Deutsche Bank Park and Bowen said: "I get it as well because you want to win the games and be in the best position possible.

"But sometimes it is not as easy as that. It is my first tournament so it is my first time seeing England at a major tournament with the fans and the following it is. For me, it is one of the best.

"Yes, we're disappointed that we haven't won the game but those are the standards we have set. My message to the fans would be 'keep sticking with it, keep showing the support you have because for me to experience it has been incredible.' Stick with it and we'll see you on Tuesday.

"The mood's really high and you try not to get involved in the outside world because what we've got is a real tight group, a real togetherness.

"We're sat here with four points, and it's probably the standards that we've set that, you know, it's not two wins.

"But it's still four points, we're still top of the group and we're still in control of our own destiny. We're calm about it."

UEFA released a statement vowing the Frankfurt pitch would improve after the surface cut up badly, with both Southgate and Kane highlighting the problem afterwards. Bowen was a 69th-minute substitute and revealed he had a major injury scare moments after his introduction.

"I thought I'd broken my ankle within the first two minutes when I came on," he said.

"It was definitely difficult. It is not an excuse in the slightest. I think Walks [Kyle Walker] had a couple [incidents] in the first 10 minutes where you could see the chunks of ground coming up. A bit like bad divots if you hit a bad golf shot.

"It was difficult but the roof was closed because of the weather which made it a lot hotter in there as well. But those are the things that get forced on you sometimes, you play the conditions and the pitches.

"I was probably running a bit too fast for my brain. I tried to turn around and kind of got my foot stuck and I thought 'oh, I'm in trouble here' but luckily I got away with it. It was one of those pitches where you can kind of get your foot caught in the ground but luckily I survived."

Luke Shaw continues to be a doubt to face Slovenia after he trained away from the group on Saturday. All remaining 25 players took part but Shaw is continuing to follow an individual programme as he bids to overcome a hamstring injury which has sidelined him since February.
