Euro 2024: Scotland's Porteous gets 2-game ban for red card

Scotland defender Ryan Porteous has been handed a two-game ban by UEFA for his challenge in Friday's Euro 2024 opening game against host nation Germany, the governing body announced on Monday.

Porteous, 25, was charged with "serious rough play" for his two-footed tackle on Ílkay Gündogan which resulted in a red card and penalty after a VAR check.

The Watford player will now have to depend on his teammates to earn passage to the knockout stages if he is to play again at the tournament.

Scotland's FA were also fined €5,625 ($6,027) by UEFA for the throwing of objects during the 5-1 defeat.

Steve Clarke's team will hope to bounce back from the heavy loss when the play Switzerland on Wednesday, with their final group fixture against Hungary on Sunday.
