Wolves' Jimenez back on Mexico squad for Nations League matches

MEXICO CITY -- Wolves striker Raul Jimenez has been recalled to the Mexican national team for upcoming CONCACAF Nations League games against Panama and Bermuda, although there's no place for Sevilla's Javier Hernandez, Napoli's Hirving Lozano or Philadelphia Union's Marco Fabian.

El Tri head coach Gerardo "Tata" Martino once again picked a squad made up mainly of young, domestic-based players, with the three Europe-based players different from the ones involved in October games against the same opposition.

Hector Moreno (Al-Gharafa), Edson Alvarez (Ajax), Jonathan dos Santos (LA Galaxy), Erick Gutierrez (PSV Eindhoven), Uriel Antuna (LA Galaxy) and Jimenez were the only foreign-based players named, replacing Jesus Corona (Porto), Hector Herrera (Atletico Madrid), Diego Lainez (Real Betis), Nestor Araujo (Celta Vigo) and Lozano from the October squad.

Martino had said he would rotate the Europe-based players in the squad as he seeks to foster the development of younger players during Nations League action.

Andres Guardado, Hernandez, Layun, and Fabian all featured in September's friendlies but will miss out on this window.

Young Leon striker Jose Juan Macias was again selected, with 22-year-old Veracruz goalkeeper Sebastian Jurado also named.

Mexico travels to face Panama in Central America on Nov. 15 and then will host Bermuda in Toluca on Nov. 19.

El Tri is currently top of Group B in League A of the Nations League and needs only a draw in its two remaining games to qualifying for the final stage of the tournament next June.
