VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Kianz Froese scored in the first half as the Vancouver Whitecaps beat Honduras' Olympia 1-0 on Wednesday night in the CONCACAF Champions League.
The 19-year-old Canadian midfielder poked a shot home in the 42nd minute that goalkeeper Noel Valladeres could only get a piece of before it looped up and over a helpless defender.
The Whitecaps moved level with the Seattle Sounders atop Group F ahead of their showdown next week.
Meanwhile in Nicaragua, Liga MX side Club America triumphed 3-1 over hosts Deportivo Walter Ferretti.
Carlos Darwin Quintero opened the scoring for America in the 13th minute before Michael Arroyo doubled the visitor's lead from the spot.
Jose Laureiro pegged one back for Walter Ferretti but the Nicaraguan side could not make their way back into the game once Quintero got his second for the match just before halftime.
