Man City's Fabian Delph eager for comeback after injury mars debut

Fabian Delph is confident he is on the comeback trail after being injured just 18 minutes into his Manchester City debut.

Delph, 25, was stretchered off on his City bow in the 4-1 International Champions Cup defeat to Real Madrid in Melbourne on July 24.

But the £8 million summer signing from Aston Villa believes he is recovering quickly from his hamstring problem, and is optimistic he will be fit again soon.

"It's not the best debut but things can only get better from there," the England international said at City Live, the club's annual awards ceremony, in Manchester on Wednesday evening.

"I'm feeling great now, my recovery is going well and we've got a great medical team here. I'm flying at the minute so I'm looking forward to coming back."

City begin their Premier League campaign away at West Bromwich Albion on Monday and they are yet to say if Delph will be fit for the trip to The Hawthorns.

But the former Leeds player is looking further ahead to when he can realise his ambition of playing in Europe's premier club competition.

"I'm really excited as it's every boy's dream to play in the Champions League," he added. "I've been given the opportunity to come here and do that. Hopefully we can do well in it and I can keep pushing on."
