Man United 'unacceptable' in loss to Newcastle - De Gea

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea was at a loss for words following Sunday's 1-0 defeat at Newcastle and apologised to fans for yet another poor display by the team.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men have now failed to win away from home in all competitions since March and have taken just nine points from their first eight Premier League matches this season.

Asked what needs to improve, De Gea told Sky Sports: "Everything. A lot of things to improve.

"I don't know what to say. Keep trying, fighting, improving every day. It's a hard moment for us. The most difficult time since I've been here. I don't know why, what is happening. Sorry to the fans. We will keep fighting.

"Come on, we conceded a goal from a corner. That cannot happen. It's unacceptable."

Sources told ESPN FC last month that the Glazer family, which owns United, has sanctioned a three-year plan to restore the club's on-field fortunes, and those within the club don't expect another title challenge until at least 2022.

When asked on Sunday, Solskjaer said he could not give a time limit.

"I can't give you any time but we will get there," Solskjaer said. "We have given ourselves a big, big uphill task to get to the top four, never mind the top six."

"We have come together and discussed the direction we are going. We will have these days, these downs, it's disappointing but we will keep on working. We know where we want to be. "
