Former West Ham striker Carlton Cole signs for Persib in Indonesia

Carlton Cole will reunite with his former Chelsea teammate Michael Essien after signing a one-year deal with Indonesia Super League club Persib Bandung.

Cole, 33, spent 14 seasons in the Premier League, including nine years with West Ham United, last played for American second-tier team Sacramento Republic in 2016.

He was presented by Persib Bandung on Thursday after passing a medical.

Essien joined the club earlier this month ahead of the 2017 ISL season, which begins on April 15, after being released by the Greek side Panathinaikos.

Cole came through he ranks at Chelsea and made 25 league appearances, having loan spells at Wolverhampton Wanderers, Charlton Athletic and Aston Villa. He earned seven England caps on the back of form that saw him score 55 league goals for West Ham.

He also had an ill-fated stint with Scottish side Celtic, where he made only five appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal.

The ISL returns next month after the lifting of Indonesia's one-year ban for government interference in football last June.
