NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Mexico's interim coach Ricardo "Tuca" Ferretti will be making significant changes to his starting XI to face the United States on Tuesday (ESPN, 8:30 p.m. ET) compared to the 4-1 loss to Uruguay last Friday in Houston. Ferretti named a 24-player squad for the FIFA dates and after using 16 over the course of the game against the South Americans is poised to hand opportunities to others against the United States.

"If you're talking about the formation, I'll speak to my players about the tactical layout," Ferretti said after the Uruguay game in a news conference. "As for the players that started, there will be a lot of changes [for Tuesday] because I want to see all the players that were brought in for these two games." Guillermo Ochoa, Hirving Lozano and Erick Gutierrez all left the squad Saturday morning to return to their club sides in Europe, meaning the Mexico squad now has only two players, Raul Jimenez and Oswaldo Alanis, that are currently based in Europe. With Ochoa out, Gibran Lajud or Hugo Gonzalez will start and make their debut for El Tri in goal, with Alanis, Orbelin Pineda, Jose Abella, Erick Aguirre, Gerardo Arteaga and Edson Alvarez all set to appear after being left on the bench against Uruguay. Mexico's players arrived in Nashville on Saturday morning and had the afternoon off. The team will train behind closed doors on Sunday ahead of Tuesday's match, a rival Ferretti believes is in a similar rebuilding process post-Russia 2018. "It is important that the players begin to experience what [the rivalry] is all about from a young age," Ferretti said. "Both countries are looking for talent for the next World Cup, both have it and it's a game that will be very useful when thinking about the future."
