Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could return to Borussia Dortmund's side when they travel to Mainz on Sunday.
Gabon international Aubameyang is available for his club again after his nation exited the African Nations Cup.
Gabon were eliminated from the tournament following three draws and only two goals, both of them scored by Aubameyang, on Sunday.
"I think it cuts both ways. I felt sorry for him. Gabon did not lose a match, but still they were eliminated," Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke told kicker.tv.
"That's bitter with the Africa Nations Cup played in your country. He must be disappointed. But it's rather good for us. He will return later this week, and is in full training. Nothing stands against his participation at Mainz."
Aubameyang's return follows speculation regarding his future at the Westfalenstadion, but Watzke is confident he will be staying with Dortmund, where he has a contract until 2020.
"We'd consider an offer if there was one. But it also depends on where it's coming from. It's just different when it's from Kyrgyzstan or China." Watzke said. "We are under no pressure like we were with [Mats] Hummels, [Henrikh] Mkhitaryan or [Ilkay] Gundogan. Aubameyang is under contract until 2100 or something like that."
Watzke also cited a recent report that Aubameyang bought a home in Dortmund, and added: "There are not many clubs with a bigger appeal than Borussia Dortmund. It's just a handful. And he earns good money here. But if a club like, let's say, Barcelona weighs in, then will talk.
"There is no offer, and we'd prefer if it stays like that."
The Dortmund chief also rejected recent media reports that BVB coach Thomas Tuchel could be sacked if the club failed to qualify for the Champions League.
"I don't know where that's from. We trust him. There is no reason, and there is no statement in that direction from any BVB official. There's no critical statement because that's not the case," Watzke said. "He's a good coach."
When Tuchel joined Dortmund to succeed Jurgen Klopp 18 months ago, he signed a three-year contract. Having reached half-way stage of those terms, Watzke said that Dortmund hope to enter contract talks with the coach in the summer, as requested by the former Mainz man.
"We wanted to hold contract talks sometime before he enters the final season of his deal," Watzke said. "Thomas wanted to hold them after the season. It was his wish. I think that's a good solution. It was his idea to talk after the season."
