However, Turkish referee Cagatay Sahan and his assistants can claim to have had it a little rougher than most of late after finding themselves temporarily imprisoned after a recent Super Lig encounter between Trabzonspor and Gaziantepspor.
Indeed, Trabzonspor reportedly locked the officials in their dressing room for four hours after the 2-2 draw against Gaziantepspor on Wednesday night after they failed to award the home side a late penalty.
According to the BBC, the order to temporarily imprison the officials was given by Trabzonspor president Ibrahim Haciosmanoglu, who was incensed by Sahan's decision not to give a penalty in the final few minutes of the match.
According to Haciosmanoglu, he only decided to free the officials (at 3:30 a.m., local time) after an intervention from none other than Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
You probably won't be surprised to learn that the incident is now being investigated by the Turkish football authorities -- so don't go getting any ideas, Jose.
