TOP STORY: United desperate to offload Sanchez to Roma

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Manchester United are desperate to get rid of striker Alexis Sanchez and are prepared to pay Roma to take the Chilean on loan, according to the Sun.

The outlet reports that United are currently planning to banish Sanchez to the reserves, but they are keen to try to sell -- or at worst offload him on loan -- before the European transfer window closes on Sept. 2.

Roma are keen to take Sanchez on loan but refuse to pay his huge salary, which means United might have to pay a percentage to get him out.

Sanchez has been described as a negative influence behind the scenes by both previous United boss Jose Mourinho and current incumbent Solskjaer, and on Tuesday, it was reported that he was involved in a training ground bust-up with teammate Mason Greenwood.

22.28 BST: So what happened with Bruno Fernandes' proposed move to Man United?

Sportsmail writes that United passed on Fernandes due to scouts' fear that the Portuguese midfielder didn't fit Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's style of play. The Norwegian values possessing the ball and scouts reportedly had concerns regarding Fernandes' decision-making and the frequency in which he gives away the ball.

While Fernandes plays more attacking third, and attempts riskier passes, his pass completion of 75.1 per cent recorded last season was not deemed high enough by those at Old Trafford. With the Premier League window now closed and proposed moves to United and Tottenham dead, the 24-year-old remains a Sporting Lisbon player for the time being.

21.36 BST: It appears to be Premier League outcasts rumoured to Turkey day on Transfer Talk.

First Daniel Sturridge, then Marcos Rojo and now... Mohamed Elneny!

Turkish news website Ajansspor.com claims that Galatasaray are still working on a 10th transfer of the summer and that the Arsenal midfielder is an option to arrive on loan. The 27-year-old Egyptian has been at the Emirates since 2015 and made 17 appearances over all competitions last season for the Gunners.

21.09 BST: Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu will skip the European Club Association's Friday meeting in Liverpool. Why could this be important? Well many expected the Barca president to rub elbows with and grab the ear of his PSG counterpart Nasser Al-Khelaifi regarding PSG ace Neymar.

While Bartomeu was not present, the two clubs met Tuesday to discuss a potential transfer for the Brazilian, although reports indicate PSG were put off by how the meeting developed. Now Bartomeu has elected to travel to Bilbao for Barcelona's opener, leading to speculation that a Neymar reunion is not a priority or a reality for the Catalan club.

Are Bartomeu and Barca just playing some strategic hardball with PSG or is the Neymar to Barca deal dead?

20.32 BST: Could Leroy Sane to Bayern Munich be back on in January?

German outlet Bild writes that Bayern are still interested in signing Sane, who is out with an ACL injury -- despite having recently signed Ivan Perisic. The Man City winger was injured during the English Community Shield after months of speculation he was set to return to Germany via a move to Bayern.

The 23-year-old will be out an extended period of time but Bayern have still have three options: make a cut-price bid before the Sept. 2 European deadline, pick things up in January and make a new bid or wait untill he is fully healthy and make a new approach come next summer.

Stay tuned...

19.43 BST: Paul Pogba sounds like he will be staying put for now, while Man United desperately attempt to offload Alexis Sanchez. But what about wantaway Marcos Rojo?

The Argentine defender's proposed move to Everton fell through in the final hours before the Premier League deadline closed on Aug. 8 leaving Rojo stranded and very unhappy at Old Trafford. With the European window open until Sept. 2, there is still time for Rojo to get his desired move with Sport Wittness claiming Fenerbahce are one club interested in him.

The report suggests that the Turkish giants are giving up on signing Roma's Aleksandar Kolarov and are moving down their list of targets. Talks between the two sides have reportedly already begun and Rojo's versatility to play as either a centre-back and left-back makes him an appealing option.

19.01 BST: Ligue 1 survivors Dijon are close to signing Senegal goalkeeper Alfred Gomis from Italian side SPAL, according to GanlucaDiMarzio.com.

The 25-year-old shot-stopper has made 46 appearances over the last two seasons in Serie A but has lost his starting place at the club to incoming signing and former Atalanta man Etrit Berisha. Gomis has played exclusively in Italy since making his professional debut for Crotone in 2013-14 and would join a Dijon side that survived relegation in France via the relegation play-offs.

18.31 BST: After not having his contract renewed at Liverpool, free agent striker Daniel Sturridge is reportedly close to finally settling on his new home.

Goal has confirmed that the 29-year-old is travelling to Turkey on Wednesday for talks with Trabzonspor, who are prepared to offer a two-year contract (with an option for a third) worth about €3 million a season.

Sturridge, whose best season came in 2013-14 with 21 goals, scored 67 times in 160 appearances with Liverpool and previously played at Manchester City and Chelsea. The two-tIme Champions League winner has recently been linked with a move to either Turkey or the United States.

17.55 BST: Staying in Scotland for a moment...

Leicester midfielder Andy King is in talks with Rangers over a possible loan move, according to LeicestershireLive. The Welsh midfielder has made over 350 appearances with the Foxes since debuting in 2007-08 but has fallen down the pecking order at the King Power, spending part of the last two seasons on loan at Swansea and Derby, respectively.

King, 30, is set to head to Glasgow on Thursday for talks with Steven Gerrard's club and Gerrard presumably has already checked in with former England teammate Frank Lampard, whom King played under at Derby last season.

17.23 BST: After signing Joel Pereira on loan from Manchester United, Hearts have signed another player with Premier League experience in Glenn Whelan.

The 35-year-old defensive midfielder signs on a free transfer after being released following Aston Villa's promotion to the Premier League. A Republic of Ireland international, Whelan has earned 86 caps for the Boys in Green and to this point, had played his entire career in England with Man City, Bury, Sheffield Wednesday, Stoke City and Aston Villa.

16.49 BST: Will Gareth Bale leave Real Madrid? ESPN FC's Craig Burley said he believes that the Wales international has the power to decide his future at the Bernabeu.

16.35 BST: Burnley midfielder Steven Defour is reportedly in talks with Antwerp, but no bid has been made, according to Belgian outlet HLN.

The striker is a free agent after being released by Swansea earlier this summer, and has been training with English League Two side Newport County after representing the Ivory Coast at the African Cup of Nations last month.

"My agent is talking with some clubs in Italy and Turkey also." Bony said. "We are waiting for the best offer and then after discussing it, we will try to go there and sign. I hope to find a club as soon as possible."

13.10 BST: Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin has completed a loan move to Real Valladolid, the club have announced.

12.30 BST: Atletico Madrid lost star man Antione Griezmann to Barcelona this summer, replacing him with 19-year-old wonderkid Joao Felix from Benfica. ESPN FC's Sid Lowe explains why Atleico could be better than ever this season.

11.58 BST: Juventus duo Blaise Matuidi and Daniele Rugani are in talks with Monaco as the Serie A champions continue their summer clear out, Gazzetta dello Sport have reported.

Rugani, who was linked with Arsenal earlier in the window, was reportedly set to be joining Roma on loan before Monaco hijacked the deal, offering to sign the defender on a permanent deal.

The Ligue 1 club are also reportedly interested in Matuidi, with the Italian news outlet reporting that the France international will leave Turin before the window closes.

Matuidi was a mainstay in the Juve team last season, making 42 appearances in all competitions.

11.32 BST: Lyon have reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of former Arsenal midfielder Jeff Reine-Adelaide from Angers, the club have announced.

The 21-year-old midfielder left the Emirates last summer, going to make 35 appearances in Ligue 1 last term.

Reine-Adelaide is expected to have a medical at Lyon later on Wednesday.

10.55 BST: Paris Saint-Germain are willing to offer one of several members of their squad as part of a deal in their renewed attempt to sign AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, according to Sky Italia.

However, they would not countenance their current No. 1, Alphonse Areola, being one of those available as part of a player-plus-cash deal.

10.29 BST: Former Barcelona forward Pedro says he would love to see the attacking trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar back together again at Camp Nou.

"There's no doubt Neymar is a great player, one of the best in the world," Pedro, who won with 19 trophies during his seven years with Barca's first team before joining Chelsea in 2015, told Esporte Interativo. "There's been a lot of talk this summer on whether he will leave PSG or not.

"He's faced a difficult and complicated situation in which he is probably experiencing in a chaotic manner but we hope he can finally decide what is best for his future.

"I hope he can return to Barcelona because I think he is great player, he knows the club and the players. He forms a great trident with Messi and Suarez. They have already won many titles together and I really hope and wish that he returns to Barcelona. I wish that his situation is resolved soon as I imagine it cannot be easy for him to be in that situation."

10.05 BST: Atletico Madrid will only announce the signing of Valencia striker Rodrigo once the Rojiblancos have sold Angel Correa to AC Milan, according to Las Provincias. The Valencia-based newspaper claims that behind both deals is super-agent Jorge Mendes, who is an associate and friend of Valencia owner Peter Lim.

Rodrigo, who missed Tuesday's training session, has been in Madrid since last night waiting for his move to Atletico to be sealed.

Atletico will reportedly pay €60m to acquire Rodrigo, which is half of his release clause. The Spain international is tied to Valencia until June 2022. Atletico, meanwhile, are hoping to sell Correa for €55m to AC Milan, a deal the club expects to complete today.

09.42 BST: French club Marseille have terminated the contract of centre-back Adil Rami after he missed a training session without the club's permission last season to feature on a French TV game show, sources have told ESPN FC.

Rami, an unused substitute on France's 2018 World Cup-winning squad, had said he received permission from previous club manager Rudi Garcia to appear on the show "Fort Boyard," in which celebrities take part in bizarre challenges in order to win money for charity.

Rami, 33, says that he texted Garcia to let him know of his plans but Marseille say the player made a mistake by not reporting for training on May 20. Rami was injured at the time and was supposed to have rehabilitation work on that day. Instead, the club argues that he risked worsening his injury by taking part on the reality show without their official permission.

The drama continued for Rami after he attended a fashion show in Monaco instead of attending Marseille's home match against Montepellier a few days after his reality show appearance.

09.19 BST: Borussia Dortmund have admitted they will not be able to keep Jadon Sancho forever. The Bundesliga club will reassess his situation every year, CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke told Ruhr Nachrichten.

The England winger has strongly been linked with Manchester United and Real Madrid were reportedly also after Bundesliga's 2018-2019 breakout star. However, Dortmund were able to ward off a transfer this summer as Watzke told a suitor "he should forget about" signing Sancho in the summer transfer window. He is under contract at Borussia until 2022.

Watzke said he was pleased that Sancho was still a Borussia player going into the new season. Asked whether the German club would be able to keep the England winger next summer, he said: "I got asked that exact question in March, but it was about keeping him this summer. Well, he's still here, isn't he?"

But Watzke added he was aware things could change quickly, and, ultimately Sancho will have the freedom to decide on his future.

"There aren't many 19-year-olds with such a potential," Watzke said. "He's also not a player form the region or one who'd have any connection to it. When you have a player like Jadon Sancho, you must reassess the situation every single year. Everything else would not be honest."

"If a foreign player is not convinced that the club is right for him at the exact time, it just does not make any sense."

08.49 BST: Paris Saint-Germain are unhappy with the way their first direct meeting with Barcelona went on Tuesday regarding the potential return of Neymar to Camp Nou, sources have told ESPN FC.

Negotiations over a cash-with-a-player exchange started in Paris this week with Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Rakitic the players Barca were keen to include in any potential deal. However, PSG told the Spanish giants during this meeting that they want Coutinho, Nelson Semedo and €120 million in exchange for Neymar, while Barca's best offer so far is Coutinho, Rakitic and €8m.

ESPN FC sources added that no major advances were made during the meeting, which Barca are viewing as the first contact between the two clubs as negotiations step up.

There will be another meeting between the pair on Thursday during UEFA's European Club Association gathering. The occasion will give Real Madrid president Florentino Perez the opportunity to start negotiations with PSG.

08.25 BST: Wissam Ben Yedder posted a letter on Twitter in which he bid farewell to Sevilla fans ahead of his move to Monaco. The France international's €40m transfer to the Ligue 1 club was announced on Wednesday morning.

The 29-year-old forward joined Sevilla from Toulouse in 2016 for a reported €10m and has scored 70 goals in 138 appearances for the Andalusian club since.

"It's with great emotion that I have to say that the time has come to leave Sevilla," Ben Yedder wrote. "A unique club that has given me during the past three years the biggest joys of my career.

"Thanks to this very special jersey, I've been able to achieve my dream of wearing another one, that of the French national team. Thanks to this jersey, I've been able to become a respectable striker in Europe..."

08.00 BST: The futures of Tottenham centre-backs Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen are in serious doubt, according to reports in the British press.

According to the Daily Mirror, Spurs fear they could lose Alderweireld for nothing at the end of the season when his contract expires. The 30-year-old's deal included a clause that made him available for just £25m this summer, but no concrete bids were received before that clause expired.

Alderweireld will be free to negotiate with clubs outside of England from Jan. 1 for a free transfer in June, unless he signs a new Spurs deal.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail reports that his fellow Belgium international, Jan Vertonghen, was left "fuming" after he was left out of the squad for Tottenham's opening Premier League match of the season against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Vertonghen, 32, also sees his contract expire at the end of the 2019-20 campaign. The Mail report adds that the former Ajax defender was omitted because of his lack of fitness despite playing a full part in preseason, and that some of his teammates were surprised he stayed to watch the 3-1 win at all after hearing that he had been dropped.

PAPER TALK (by Nick Judd): Bakayoko in high-interest loan return to Monaco?

Tiemoue Bakayoko could be on the move once more, with Monaco interested in taking the Chelsea flop on loan, according to the Sun.

Bakayoko signed for the Blues for £40 million from the French side in 2017 but spent last season on loan at AC Milan, and it would appear that the France international has no future under Frank Lampard.

Danny Drinkwater has already left Chelsea on loan to join Burnley, and now Bakayoko could be following him through the exit door to rejoin the club with which he starred as they won the league in 2017. The 2016-17 campaign was Bakayoko's third in the principality, and in total he made 92 appearances during his stay.

Galatasaray attempted to sign Bakayoko earlier in August, but Monaco's interest could be a good opportunity for Lampard to get Bakayoko off the Chelsea wage bill.

United brace themselves for Pogba bid

Manchester United are counting down the hours until the end of the transfer window in Europe as they brace for a last-minute bid for Paul Pogba from Real Madrid.

The Mirror are reporting that Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is demanding that his employers sign Pogba before the European window shuts, and he could walk out on the club if they fail to do so.

Sources have told ESPN FC that United will resist any bid for Pogba and have had assurances from 26-year-old that he is committed to the club this season.

The France international provided two assists in United's 4-0 home win against Chelsea on the opening day of the season, highlighting his importance to the Reds as their most effective midfielder.

Tap-ins

-- With Napoli seemingly giving up on signing James Rodriguez, La Gazzetta Dello Sport is suggesting that AC Milan could make a move for the Colombian on loan and sneak Isco into the deal for good measure. James is out of the picture under Zidane and is just as keen to leave as the club are to get him off the wage bill. A loan move could suit everyone and help Madrid bring transfer targets in.

-- Real Madrid look set to miss out on Donny van de Beek. That's according to Marca, who are reporting that in the mixed zone following Ajax's 3-2 Champions League qualifying win over PAOK on Tuesday, Van de Beek hinted that he was staying put.
