A-League locks in grand final date, hopes to see Melbourne City host finals

The A-League grand final is locked in for June 26, while the competition is remains hopeful that premiers Melbourne City will be able to host finals despite Victoria's COVID-19 outbreak.

The top six teams are already set but only top-placed City and second-placed Sydney FC have secured their position -- including a week off then a home semi-final.

This weekend's games will decide who finishes between third and sixth between Brisbane Roar, Central Coast Mariners, Macarthur FC and Adelaide United, and therefore the make-up of the two elimination finals.

City are entitled to host their semifinal on June 18, and the grand final if they progress to it, with the league hoping to keep things that way pending the state of Melbourne's lockdown.

Currently games in Melbourne can be staged only behind closed doors.

"It is our intent to play the Melbourne City FC-hosted A-League 2021 semifinal at AAMI Park in Melbourne, however we will confirm the venue nearer the time, pending COVID restrictions in place at the time in Victoria," Australian Professional Leagues said in a statement.

"Sydney FC's A-League 2021 semifinal will be hosted at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium."

City's game against Newcastle Jets at AAMI Park that was postponed due to Melbourne's coronavirus outbreak still needs to be completed before the finals.

The game is expected to be played as a midweek fixture next week but the date and venue are yet to be locked in.
