Bernd Leno honoured by Real Madrid talk, concentrating on Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno says he is honoured to have been linked with Real Madrid, but wants to focus on his club.

Kicker reported on Thursday that Madrid are interested in signing Leno, 25, who reportedly has a €20 million release clause in his Leverkusen contract.

However, fresh from making his competitive debut for Germany in Sunday's 4-1 World Cup qualifying defeat of Azerbaijan, Leno, who could make his 200th appearance for Leverkusen on the final day of the season, insists he wants to concentrate on his side's push for Europe.

"It honours you when you are linked with Real," he told kicker. "[But] in the current situation I want to fully focus on Leverkusen."

Leno's agent, Uli Ferber, claimed in kicker there is interest for Leno from clubs outside of Germany.

"There was interest [from clubs abroad] last year, and there is interest again this year," he said.

Madrid have been linked with a number of other goalkeepers, including Chelsea's Thibaut Courtois, Manchester United's David De Gea and AC Milan's Gianluigi Donnarumma, who would all likely command a significantly higher transfer fee than Leno.
