Francesco Totti focused on success, not new Roma contract

Francesco Totti says he does not want to think about the future right now after once again coming to Roma's rescue.

Totti, 40, scored the winning goal in stoppage time on Wednesday night as the Giallorossi saw off Serie B side Cesena to book a semifinal clash with Eternal City rivals Lazio in the Coppa Italia, showing once again how he can still make a contribution to the cause.

The one-year contract extension he signed in the summer after some inspirational performances late last season expires this June, but that is not to say he is going to hang up his boots. There have been calls for Totti to carry on playing at least another season, with both Antonio Cassano and Gianluigi Buffon backing him to continue, but he still does not want to commit either way.

"Right now, I'm just going to enjoy these two or three months left [on my contract] and then we will reflect and decide together," Totti told RAI television. "It's not the right time to talk about it yet."

Those few months are going to include two more derbies to add to his collection with the semifinals of the Coppa Italia taking place over two legs. Victory in that tie would take him closer to getting his hands on another piece of silverware, which is what he says he is focusing on more than his future.

"We've got to forget about them being derbies and treat them like any other game, and then let's hope we can reach the final," Totti said, after scoring his 100th goal for a Roma side coached by Luciano Spalletti on Wednesday.
