Revitalised Hatem Ben Arfa in line for Ligue 1 Player of the Year award

Hatem Ben Arfa is in the running to be named as Ligue 1's best Player of the Season after the shortlist for the French top division's annual awards was revealed on Wednesday.

Former Newcastle United and Hull midfielder Ben Arfa has enjoyed an outstanding season for Nice, leading the club to the brink of Champions League qualification with 17 goals and a string of fine performances.

And he is targeting a place in the France squad for the European Championship, telling L'Equipe: "When I come to Paris, people congratulate me on the street and tell me I'm going to the Euros, I have to go.

"The idea is to have fun and to be consistent in my performances. I was often criticised for not being. It was important to prove that to myself already. After, the France team... yes, it is a goal."

Marseille midfielder Lassana Diarra, who has enjoyed an outstanding campaign despite his team's struggles, is the final name on the list.

PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot, Nice midfielder Vincent Koziello, Thomas Lemar of Monaco, another midfielder and Rennes forward Ousmane Dembele, who has been linked with linked with clubs including Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, are the contenders for the Young Player award.
