Ruben Neves thinks it would be "fantastic" to become a Porto icon, despite speculation linking him with a Premier League move to Chelsea or Liverpool.
Neves, 18, has drawn comparisons with Barcelona star Sergio Busquets after a number of impressive performances in holding midfield for Porto, reportedly attracting the attention of some of England's biggest clubs.
Neves grew up as a Porto supporter in the town of Mezelos, south of Porto, and joined the club's academy at the age of eight. The midfielder has been named as the club's third captain despite his age, and has a release clause of €40 million after signing a new contract in October 2014.
Porto president Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa warned off Neves' potential suitors in late October by suggesting that the midfielder could follow the example of former Portugal defender Joao Pinto, who spent his entire career at the Estadio do Dragao.
Speaking about the president's comments, Neves told the club's magazine: "To hear the president say that he wants to make me a symbol of the club, it's fantastic. This made me feel very proud.
"I am under contract until June 2019 and, at the moment, I am only thinking about the club achieving its goals."
Neves became the youngest Primeira Liga goal scorer in Porto history last season, netting against Maritimo when he was 17 years and five months old.
In October 2015 he became the club's youngest-ever Champions League captain by leading out the side against Maccabi Tel-Aviv aged 18 years and 221 days, before making his international debut for Portugal a month later.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly targeting a defensive midfielder as Nemanja Matic has struggled to carry over his form from the Blues' Premier League title-winning campaign into the new season.
