Manuel Pellegrini won't blame England for Fabian Delph injury

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has no issues with England over Fabian Delph's latest injury setback.

Delph suffered fresh hamstring damage within seconds of kick-off of England's midweek win over Switzerland at Wembley.

The Euro 2016 qualifier had been the midfielder's first start of the season after recovering from another injury to the same muscle sustained soon after his £8 million summer move from Aston Villa.

The 25-year-old now faces another month to six weeks on the sidelines and Pellegrini has put it down to bad luck rather than throwing any blame England's way.

Pellegrini said: "When the players go to the national squad I trust in their managers and the way they work because they are very good professionals.

"I don't have any doubt it was an unlucky moment for Fabian Delph and not a problem of the warm-up or the way the England squad work."

Delph's City career is yet to get started in earnest. He was forced to miss the opening wins over West Brom and Chelsea and then made only late substitute appearances against Everton and Watford.

Pellegrini said: "Of course it is not the best way to start but I think Fabian Delph must be strong in his mind. He must understand these things can happen.

"But he is a very good professional. He can be back as soon as he can."

City had a frustrating international break as playmaker David Silva also took a blow to the ankle and will miss the Premier League leaders' trip to Crystal Palace on Saturday.
