Former Green Bay Packers center Josh Myers has agreed to terms with the New York Jets on a one-year, $3.5 million deal, a source told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler on Wednesday.
Myers, 26, projects as the Jets' backup center, behind two-year starter Joe Tippmann, who played every offensive snap last season. Tippmann also can play guard, so this gives the Jets added flexibility. They needed depth at center because backup Wes Schweitzer is a free agent.
Myers started all 60 games he has played in, playoffs included, in his career. He became an immediate starter as a rookie for the Packers in 2021 but lasted only six games before a knee injury ended his regular season, although he returned for the playoffs.
He has been ultra reliable ever since.
His 50 regular-season starts since the beginning of the 2022 season were the most for the Packers on the offensive side of the ball during that span. Known for his toughness, he missed just one game in that stretch, the Week 9 matchup this past season against the Detroit Lions, because of a wrist injury. He told ESPN after the season that he also played the second half of last season with a torn pectoral muscle. He was voted as a Pro Bowl alternate in 2024.
The move reunites Myers, a second-round pick in 2021 out of Ohio State, with his former Buckeyes teammate Justin Fields, who agreed to a two-year, $40 million deal with the Jets earlier this week.
