Alistair Overeem meets Alexander Volkov in a matchup of veteran ranked heavyweights in the main event of UFC Fight Night on Saturday. The fights, which take place at the UFC's Apex facility in Las Vegas, will be broadcast on ESPN+, with the main card starting at 8 p.m. ET and the prelims at 5 p.m.
Overeem (47-187, 1 NC) has won four of his last five fights, with all of the wins coming by knockout. The lone loss in that time also was a knockout, coming at the hands of Jairzinho Rozenstruik with just 4 seconds remaining in a fight that Overeem was about to win by decision. The 40-year-old Dutchman is No. 6 in the ESPN heavyweight rankings.
The seventh-ranked Volkov (32-8) has won two of his last three, most recently a TKO of Walt Harris in October. The 32-year-old Russian is a former champion in the Bellator and M-1 promotions.
The co-main event features former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar, in his second appearance at bantamweight, taking on Cory Sandhagen, who is No. 3 among 135-pounders in the ESPN rankings. Edgar is No. 7.
There are a couple of other ranked fighters on the card: Diego Ferreira, No. 10 at lightweight, faces Beneil Dariush; and Alexandre Pantoja, the seventh-ranked male flyweight, takes on Manel Kape. Marion Reneau, No. 10 at women's bantamweight, was to fight Macy Chiasson, but the bout was postponed to Feb. 27 after Reneau tested positive for coronavirus during fight week.
