      Wycombe come from behind to seal automatic promotion

      Wycombe Wanderers celebrated promotion after they fought back to win 2-1 at relegated Chesterfield.The home side led through a Michael Harriman own goal but Nathan Tyson replied before Dominic Gape fired in the winner in front of 1,100 Wycombe fans.Chesterfield almost silenced the away fans in the 19th minute when Jerome Binnom-Williams cut the ball back from the left and Kristian Dennis hit a left foot shot from the edge of the area that was brilliantly saved by Scott Brown.Wycombe responded with a 25-yard free-kick that Aaron Ramsdale turned behind but Chesterfield struck first in the 39th minute when Bradley Barry's shot hit the inside of a post and went in off Michael Harriman.But Wycombe equalised in stoppage time when Chesterfield failed to clear and Tyson turned in a low cross at the near post.Ramsdale saved a Sido Jombati header in the 48th minute and the 'keeper did even better when he came out to deny Craig Mackail-Smith in the 69th minute.But Wycombe's pressure told in the 76th minute when a corner was only half cleared and Gape's shot was deflected past Ramsdale.

        Forest Green edge closer to safety while Chesterfield face the drop

        Forest Green virtually rubber-stamped their League Two status, but Chesterfield are all but down as stoppage-time goals from substitute Dayle Grubb and Christian Doidge guided Rovers to a 4-1 victory.Jack Lester's basement-boys were left to rue a raft of his missed chances and now face a huge fight to stave-off back-to-back relegations.Rovers took the lead in the 26th minute. Scott Laird arrowed in an angle drive from 25 yards.Kristian Dennis levelled things up from the penalty spot for Chesterfield in the 36th minute after Reuben Reid clipped Drew Talbot inside the box.Goalkeeper Brad Collins saved Rovers with outstanding reflexes as he denied Dennis with sharp hands from a searching Jacob Brown cross.With 15 minutes to go Forest Green boss Mark Cooper introduced Dayle Grubb and his impact was immediate, just two minutes after coming on, he rolled in Doidge who finished with aplomb for his 23rd goal of the season in the 77th minute.Following the goal, a Chesterfield fan entered the pitch to vent his frustration.Chesterfield's Jacob Brown struck the post in the 90th minute and as the game entered six-added minutes an impish piece of skill from Grubb made it 3-1 in the 94th minute. A minute later Alex Bray was tripped in the box for Doidge to convert his second and Rovers' fourth.

          Exeter keep promotion hopes on track with win

          Exeter kept the pressure on Wycombe in the race for automatic promotion from League Two with a nervy 2-1 win over Chesterfield at St James' Park. City created the best of the early chances with Jayden Stockley seeing his shot saved by Aaron Ramsdale, although Kristian Dennis screwed a decent chance wide for Chesterfield. The Grecians continued to press and they got the goal their play deserved on 39 minutes when Jake Taylor stood a cross up to the back post where Stockley powered in a header from six yards for his 22nd goal of the season. Dennis fired tamely at Christy Pym early in the second half before the Spireites came close to an equaliser when Exeter's Lloyd James headed against his own post and George Smith was denied by a superb reflex stop by Pym on the rebound. Pierce Sweeney forced a smart stop from Ramsey with a fierce free-kick in the 74th minute for Exeter and from the resulting corner, Alex Whitmore turned into his own goal from Hiram Boateng's cross to double the Grecians' lead.Chesterfield's Andy Kellett pulled one back in the 84th minute after good work by Joe Rowley but Exeter held firm to pick up an important three points.

            Chesterfield on the brink after Mansfield defeat

            Chesterfield's Football League survival hopes were hanging by a thread after rivals Mansfield revived their play-off aspirations with a 1-0 win at the Proact Stadium.Mansfield's first victory in 10 games was secured midway through the second half when Mal Benning cut inside and scored with a low shot and although Chesterfield pressed, they could not break through a determined defence.The visitors had the first chance when Benning's dipping shot came out to Alfie Potter, who fired over from 12 yards, and they should have scored in the 19th minute when Benning picked out Danny Rose but from 10 yards he hit the legs of Aaron Ramsdale.Chesterfield did not threaten until the closing stages of the first half when Kristian Dennis cut in from the left and forced Conrad Logan into a diving save.The game was evenly poised in the second half but Benning had caused problems all afternoon and in the 67th minute he got behind Chesterfield on the left and found the bottom corner with a shot from 15 yards.Chesterfield almost equalised in the 79th minute when a Louis Dodds shot deflected off Dennis and went just wide and Jak McCourt had a shot charged down but Mansfield held on for a deserved win.

              Battle of strugglers ends in draw

              The battle of the two League 2 strugglers ended all square as bottom club Chesterfield came from two goals down to earn a battling point at the Globe Arena.Despite Chesterfield enjoying the greater share of the possession in the first half the Shrimps took a 2-0 lead into the break after a close range header from Garry Thompson in the 17th minute from Michael Rose 's excellent cross and a fine Callum Lang effort 12 minutes from the break after he robbed the visitors' defence of possession and slotted the ball under Aaron Ramsdale from 12 yards out.Chesterfield boss Jack Lester made two changes at the break with Chris O'Grady and George Smith coming on and the changes quickly paid dividends as the visitors pulled one back through top scorer Kristian Dennis.The chance looked to have gone begging when Dennis initially failed to control the ball into the box but he recovered sharply and struck a stunning volley past Danijel Nizic from the left hand side of the box.The visitors then took charge and deservedly added a second with 15 minutes to go.Ramsdale drove a free kick into the Morecambe box and the ball was headed into the danger area for Andy Kellett to smash a half volley past Nizic from 12 yards out.Both teams went close to snatching victory at the end with Morecambe's Gregg Wylde smashing a close range effort over after 90 minutes and Louis Dodds almost sealing a superb fightback when he headed wide in injury time from Jason Brown's cross.

                Mitch Rose gives Grimsby first win of 2018 to ease relegation fears

                Grimsby Town's first win in 21 games saw them take a huge step towards securing their League Two place for next season with a vital 1-0 victory over Chesterfield.The Mariners' first success of 2018 - and since Michael Jolley took over the reins - leaves them seven points clear of their opponents, who remain bottom of the table.Mitch Rose kept his cool, under the most intense pressure, to score a decisive penalty two minutes from time.Given the magnitude of the game, it was a cagey opening 45 minutes but the visitors did enjoy a late wave of pressure.Grimsby goalkeeper James McKeown denied Andy Kellett twice in quick succession, before making a smart save from leading scorer Kristian Dennis.At the other end, the recalled JJ Hooper might have done better after turning past his man and firing straight at Aaron Ramsdale.Upon the restart, Grimsby skipper Nathan Clarke went close with a header from six yards.A classic goalmouth scramble followed, with Luke Summerfield and Rose both being pegged back in the nick of time.Chesterfield had forged the better opportunities before half-time, but it was a different story after the break.Drew Talbot was penalised for handball late on, with Rose stepping up to send Ramsdale the wrong way, sparking jubilant scenes in Cleethorpes.

                  Ten-man Port Vale snatch late victory against struggling Chesterfield

                  Port Vale claimed a late 2-1 win against relegation-threatened Chesterfield despite playing 45 minutes with 10 men.Danny Pugh put the home side ahead on the stroke of half-time when he converted David Worrall's low cross, but the midfielder was dismissed in first-half stoppage-time for a dangerous tackle on Jacob Brown.Central midfielder Louis Reed, on loan from Sheffield United, levelled for Chesterfield on 56 minutes with a great 25-yard free-kick which found the top corner.However, substitute Ben Whitfield showed composure in front of goal to curl past Aaron Ramsdale with seven minutes remaining to put Vale back in front.Reed went close with another free-kick in the final minute but he sent his effort over the crossbar as the visitors searched for a last-gasp equaliser.Andrew Talbot almost earned a share of the spoils for Chesterfield when he made a late run into the penalty area in stoppage-time but he could only shoot straight at goalkeeper Ryan Boot.
