Bayern Munich received another setback before kick off of Wednesday's 2-0 loss to Napoli with the news that Thiago and James Rodriguez face spells on the sidelines through injury.
Both new signing James and Thiago were substituted following injuries in the 0-3 defeat to Liverpool on Tuesday. James suffered a thigh injury and will be unavailable "in the coming weeks", the Bundesliga champions announced on Wednesday.
Spain international Thiago sustained a stomach muscle injury and has been ruled out of Saturday's DFL Super Cup match at Borussia Dortmund.
David Alaba completed a trio of Bayern players who had to go off prematurely against the English Reds. However, the Austrian defender "received treatment on Wednesday and will train individually on Thursday," the club announced.
Despite the current spate of injuries, manager Carlo Ancelotti reiterated he would not be dipping into the transfer market to cover any absences.
"That hasn't changed," he said at the postgame news conference.
"Yes [James] has an injury and will be out for two or three weeks but it's not a big problem because the season hasn't really started yet. We are on time even if we lose an important player for two or three weeks."
Meanwhile, Ancelotti said he understood the frustration of the fans as the Bundesliga champions were jeered off the pitch following another tepid preseason defeat.
Bayern finished in last place in their own home four-team preseason tournament and have now conceded 14 goals over the past six matches -- losing to both AC and Inter Milan on their 12-day summer tour of China and Singapore and also succumbing to Arsenal in a penalty shootout.
The Bavarians' only success came against Premier League champions Chelsea, winning 3-2.
Napoli central defender Kalidou Koulibaly fired home the opener from close range past third-choice goalkeeper Christian Fruchtl on 14 minutes. Substitute Emanuele Giaccherini doubled the lead 10 minutes after the break with a clinical finish into the corner past a helpless Fruchtl.
Asked about his feelings on the whistles from sections of the Allianz Arena following another deserved preseason defeat, Ancelotti said: "I understand. We have lost a lot of games and have problems but we are working to have a lot of claps [applause] in the next games.
"Of course, we are not happy about the situation but the season has not started yet. We have the first official game on Saturday. We have to keep confident and prepare well for the game."
With the DFL Super Cup looming on Saturday in Dortmund, Ancelotti fielded an experimental XI, captained by Joshua Kimmich. Summer signings from Hoffenheim, Sebastian Rudy and Niklas Sule, were both singled out for praise by Ancelotti on their home debuts.
"Sule played well and so did Rudy -- they will help us this season," he said.
