Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne equalled the Premier League assist record for a single season in the 5-0 victory over Norwich City on Sunday. De Bruyne, 29, matched Thierry Henry's record of 20 assists during the 2002-03 campaign when he set Raheem Sterling up to put City 3-0 ahead. - Stream FC Daily on ESPN+ Arsenal's Mesut Ozil previously came closest to the record in 2015-16 with 19 assists. The Belgium international has been one of the standout performers in the league, hitting double figures in goals and assists this season. De Bruyne also claimed his second Premier League Playmaker of the Season award in three years after winning the inaugural prize in 2017-18 campaign for the most assists in the league. After scoring twice on the final day, De Bruyne joked that he would have surpassed Henry's tally if he were credited with assists in the 3-0 win over Arsenal last month. When asked about the equalling the record, he responded: "I've got two more. "You guys took two away from me, I'm still claiming that one! For me I was already above. It was a good 90 minutes for us because obviously we've still got the Champions League to play. "So it's good to stay in the rhythm. Now we've got two weeks to rest up a bit and train hard to be ready. Hopefully we can play another four games, but we've got some football to play." De Bruyne's performances saw him finish second behind Liverpool's Jordan Henderson for the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year.
