Indonesia have claimed the bronze medal in the men's football tournament of the 31st Southeast Asian Games after beating fierce rivals Malaysia 4-3 on penalties on Sunday, following a 1-1 draw between the sides in the third place playoff.
Following a goalless first half at Hanoi's My Dinh National Stadium, it was Indonesia who took the lead in the 69th minute when a flurry of quick passes between Saddil Ramdani, Irfan Jauhari and Marselino Ferdinan released Ronaldo Kwateh, who emphatically dispatched his shot into the back of the net.

But with ten minutes remaining, the Malaysians hit back after a right-wing cross from Syafik Ismail fell at the feet of Hadi Fayyadh, whose powerful drive ricocheted the back of a opposition defender on its way past a hapless Ernando Ari.
With the scores level at fulltime and no extra-time involved, the tie then went down to the dreaded penalty shootout and both Hadi and Indonesia's Asnawi Mangkualam failed to convert the first attempts.
Eventually, it was down to Luqman Hakim Shamsudin to be the fall guy for Malaysia as Ernando produced a second save of the shootout to pave the way for Marc Klok to eventually seal the bronze medal for Indonesia with the final spot-kick of the shootout.
The result means Indonesia have now earned a medal in the last three editions of the SEA Games, while Malaysia will head home empty-handed for a second tournament running since they last claimed silver in 2017.
