Fierce rivals Malaysia and Singapore will face off in the men's football tournament at next month's Southeast Asian (SEA) Games after both were drawn in Group B on Wednesday.
Both teams failed to make it out of the group stage when the SEA Games were last held in Philippines in 2019 but will fancy their chances of reaching the semifinals, although the clear favourites in Group B are 16-time record champions Thailand.
The other two teams in Group B are Cambodia and Laos.
Group A should also deliver some tantalising ties after hosts Vietnam and Indonesia were drawn together in what will be a rematch of the 2019 final.
On that occasion, it was Vietnam who emerged triumphant as they defeated the Indonesians 3-0 to claim a maiden gold medal in the men's competition.
2019 bronze medallists Myanmar, Philippines and Timor-Leste complete Group A.
The upcoming SEA Games, which will be the 31st edition of the multi-sport event, was initially scheduled to take place last year but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The men's football tournament, originally an Under-22 competition, will be changed to an Under-23 event to accommodate for the postponement, while also allowing for three overage players.
