FIFA World Ranking: Belgium stay in top spot, Spain back in top three

Belgium will remain on top of the FIFA World Ranking for a second month when the new table is published on Dec. 3.

Marc Wilmots led his side into the No. 1 position for the first time in their history in the November ranking, and Friday's night's 3-1 friendly win at home to Italy has proved to be enough to hold onto first place.

Argentina, who drew with Brazil and beat Colombia in World Cup qualifiers, are back up into second place, while Spain are up three to third after being as low as 12th as recently as July.

Spain have been out of the top five since their disastrous World Cup campaign in Brazil last summer, but have leapfrogged the world champions courtesy of their 2-0 win over England in Alacante.

Germany, now fourth, failed to pick up any ranking points this week as they were beaten 2-0 in France before their game against Netherlands was called off at the eleventh hour due to security concerns.

Chile stay fifth while Brazil climb two places into sixth. Portugal slip three places into seventh and Colombia drop a position into eighth, with the top 10 completed by England and Austria who are unchanged.

The biggest climbers inside the top 20 are Ecuador, who are up eight places into 13th following wins over Uruguay and Venezuela in World Cup qualifying.

Hungary move up to their highest-ever ranking after beating Norway home and away to qualify for Euro 2016. They are up 13 places to 20th, after having previously being ranked no higher than 27th.

Romania and Wales continue their slide back down the rankings, both down two to 16th and 17th respectively.

Other moves of note see Czech Republic drop nine to 26th, Republic of Ireland climb 11 to 31st and Sweden jump 10 to 35th.

Ivory Coast are the top ranked African nation, up three to 20th. Mexico lead the CONCACAF nations, up two to 22nd with United States up one to 32nd and Costa Rica climbing three to 37th. Iran remain the top-ranked Asian nation, though drop two to 45th.
