Nice have offered Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Kevin Trapp regular first team football in Ligue 1 this season and are negotiating with the French champions, a source close to the talks has confirmed to ESPN FC.
As reported first in France by Nice-Matin, Les Aiglons have identified a new goalkeeper as a priority before this week's European transfer deadline.
According to the source, Nice contacted PSG about Trapp and after being informed that Les Parisiens will let the 28-year-old go, proposed a season-long loan.
It is unclear, for now, how much of Trapp's near €5 million annual salary Patrick Vieira's men are able to cover but Champions League qualification would put them in a position to finance a permanent deal.
In the meantime, the source indicated that Trapp wants to stay in France as a starter and knows that he is already behind Gianluigi Buffon and World Cup winner Alphonse Areola in Thomas Tuchel's PSG pecking order.
A disappointing start to life under Vieira, with a solitary point from a possible nine, has prompted Nice to look at Yoan Cardinale between the sticks, but free agent Hatem Ben Arfa has also been linked with a return after a disastrous spell with PSG.
Nice tried and failed to lure Salvatore Sirigu to Allianz Riviera a few years ago when he dropped behind Trapp and Areola at PSG, but they are in a stronger position now because of the former Eintracht Frankfurt man's desire to stay in Ligue 1 with a Premier League move no longer possible.
The source explained that the opportunity to offload most of Trapp's wages after selling Goncalo Guedes to Valencia gives PSG significant wiggle room within UEFA's financial fair play (FFP) limits between now and the end of the week, which could result in more than one player arriving.
Per ESPN FC sources, Valencia will pay €40m plus up to €10m more, as well as a significant percentage of the profit made from any future sale, to take the total amount to around double what Benfica received for Guedes less than two years ago.
With that money, PSG sporting director Antero Henrique can pursue a new left-back and he has wasted little time in closing in on Bayern Munich's Juan Bernat.
As reported by Sky Sport in Germany, the source has confirmed that talks are underway between the two parties and the Spaniard's price tag of around €15 million fits with what the French giants are looking to spend in that area.
Although there is no agreement yet and Bernat was far from PSG's first choice, his price and availability made him the most realistic after his name emerged during talks for Jerome Boateng before Thilo Kehrer was signed from Schalke 04 instead.
Atletico Madrid's Filipe Luis was PSG's top target at left-back and had even agreed provisional terms on the move, but the source said that the Spaniards are doing everything possible to block the move and their €30m asking price is more than the Ligue 1 heavyweights can offer.
Tottenham Hotspur's Danny Rose remains a backup option, said the source, but with Marseille also interested and the England international having played in Monday's 3-0 win away at Manchester United, a summer move away from Spurs looks less certain than before.
Also, echoing Paris United's report, the source added that PSG are looking into a late midfield addition with Celta Vigo's Stanislav Lobotka and Lazio's Sergej Milinkovic-Savic the two targets.
However, the Slovakia international is expected to be far more realistic within FFP at this late stage of the transfer window than the Serbian and left-back remains the first port of call with Layvin Kurzawa's fitness struggles causing concern for PSG.
