Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo opens CR7 hotels

When any given footballer passes the 30 mark, thoughts inevitably begin to turn to their impending retirement from professional sport and maintaining an income stream thereafter.

Cristiano Ronaldo is no different, with the Real Madrid superstar taking several steps to ensure he won't be going hungry and struggling to pay the gas bill after he calls time on his illustrious playing career.

Indeed, Ronaldo has recently announced that he plans to make a €75 million investment in a new chain of CR7-themed luxury hotels, the first of which is scheduled to be opened in his hometown of Funchal, Madeira, in the summer of 2016.

"My job is to play football but life won't always be like this," he said at his introductory news conference.

"I have to dedicate myself to this new project and I have the best team in the world around me to help.

"A person like me, I'm a fighter, ambitious and always striving for more.

"I am young but I feel very fulfilled, so this project is exciting for me because my roots are in Madeira and this is where the first hotel will be."

Further hotels will then be built in Lisbon, Madrid and New York -- the only city of the four that Ronaldo hasn't played his football in.

Not yet, at least.
