Abdil calls on Ken Ilso to help Home United's S.League title chase

Former LionsXII defender Abdil Qaiyyim has called on former Bundesliga striker Ken Ilso to return to Home United for the 2016 S.League season.

The ex-Fortuna Dusseldorf forward is back in Europe, considering his future, after leading Home's scoring charts with 13 goals and 10 assists this year.

Abdil, who recently agreed to stay with Home United for another season, says that the 29-year-old Danish attacker has the skills to inspire those around him.

"In the event that Ken continues his journey with Home United, it will definitely be a big boost to the entire club," Abdil told ESPN FC.

"He has the right pedigree given his experience and talent. We all know what he can do with and without the ball."

Defensive lynchpin Abdil was one of the Protectors' top players this year, featuring in 30 games and scoring two crucial goals.

Having been touted as a possible Tampines Rovers' recruit, the Singapore international put the rumours to bed when he decided to continue with what he called "Home United's vision".

Abdil said: "The club officials, especially coach Philippe Aw, showed a lot of faith in me. As a player, it is a boost to my confidence that people trust us to get the job done.

"The club's vision is to win but at the same time, we want to win and create an awareness that football should be played like this (a fluid passing game).

"You see Barcelona doing this and winning titles, but it takes time for everything to fall into place. So far, everything is going in the right direction and I'm enjoying my time at Home."

The centre-back, who has been one of the S.League's top defenders, believes the return of the LionsXII players will benefit local football and create a tougher competition next season.

He added: "Personally, I think I have improved this season but there is always room for more. The officials have been patient with me to make sure I become a better player, something the club tries to do with every playing member of the team.

"Next season will be a very tough league as most of the LionsXII players are all national team quality. Them, being spread around the league means no team will be a pushover. As for Home, we certainly hope to finish higher than last season.

"With the core of the team staying together, I hope we can gel fast with the new players and hopefully get something out of it by the end of the campaign."

The club have moved quickly to fill the void left by departing players Stanely Ng (Geylang International) and Yasir Hanapi (Tampines Rovers). They've brought in Tampines winger Aqhari Abdullah, Shamil Sharif of Young Lions, plus the LionsXII duo Zulfahmi Arifin and Khairul Nizam, while retaining the services of eight goal forward Azhar Sairudin.

But Ilso could be the missing piece in the puzzle.

"[Ken is] a good asset to the team and I am looking forward to linking up with him again come 2016," he said.

The Protectors finished sixth in the 2015 S.League. But under Aw's guidance, the team from the north have been making all the right moves to develop a scintillating brand of passing football that has got fans purring in delight.

With their defensive tower Abdil committed to the cause, there's every chance Home United will win the S.League title for the third time in the club's proud history.
