          2022 World Cup stats: Ramos joins Eusebio, overtakes Ronaldo; Morocco make history

          The World Cup Round of 16 stage came to an end on Tuesday with Morocco stunning Spain and Portugal hammering Switzerland. Morocco and Spain couldn't break the deadlock so they went to penalties where Moroccan keeper Yassine Bounou emerged hero by saving two penalties and helping his team reach quarterfinal for the first time.

          Cristiano Ronaldo was dropped to bench as Portugal produced an attacking masterclass to beat the Swiss 6-1. Goncalo Ramos, who came in place of Ronaldo, scored a superb hat-trick to ensure they make to the last-eight stage comfortably.

          Morocco vs. Spain

          Morocco became the first Arab nation to reach the FIFA World Cup quarterfinals. They are also the fourth African nation to play in the quarterfinals of the FIFA men's World Cup.

          Spain finished the match with just one shot on target. They are tied for their fewest shots on target in a FIFA World Cup match going back to 1966. They did that three other times with the most recent was in a 2006 FIFA World Cup Round of 16 match against France where they lost 3-1.

          At 18 years and 123 days, Gavi became the youngest players to start a men's FIFA World Cup knockout match since Pele in the 1958 final (17y-249d).

          Rodri finished the match with 234 touches and 206 passes completed - the most touches and passes completed by a men's player in a World Cup match since 1966.

          No men's team has lost more penalty shootouts at the World Cup than Spain -- 4.

          Also, this is the third straight time that Spain have been eliminated on penalties at a major tournament.

          Portugal vs. Switzerland

          Goncalo Ramos became the first player to score a hat-trick on his World Cup debut since Germany's Miroslav Klose did it in 2002. He also scored more goals for Portugal in the World Cup knockout games than Cristiano Ronaldo has in six matches.

          Ramos joined Eusebio as the only Portuguese players with four goal involvements in a single men's World Cup match since 1966.

          Eusebio scored four goals against North Korea in 1966. Ramos scored three and assisted once against Switzerland on Tuesday.

          Goncalo Ramos became the youngest player with four goal contributions at a World Cup game (availability of data from 1966). He's also the youngest player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup knockout game since Pele who did it in 1958.
