Day 10 of the 2022 FIFA World Cup saw the final round of group games begin, with Ecuador watching their dreams go up in smoke after Kalidou Koulibaly's incredible goal sent Senegal through to the knockouts with a 2-1 win. The Netherlands did not break a sweat in their 2-0 win over Qatar that saw them top Group A. England also cemented top spot in Group B with a comfortable 3-0 win over Wales, while the USA eliminated Iran with a 1-0 victory.

Ecuador is the first CONMEBOL team to win its opening match of a World Cup and not reach the knockout stages since Argentina in 2002. Prior to that, only four South American nations had done so - Brazil (1966), Argentina and Uruguay (1962), Chile (1930).
