Aston Villa sign defender Jordan Amavi from Nice

Aston Villa have signed left-back Jordan Amavi from Nice, the clubs announced on Saturday.

The 21-year-old, who has represented France at under-21 level, finalised his deal with the Premier League side on Saturday, the day after Fabian Delph's U-turn to join Manchester City in an £8 million deal.

"I'm delighted to have secured the services of someone we consider to be a terrific young player," manager Tim Sherwood said. "Jordan has been one of the outstanding players in Ligue 1 and is still very young and can become even better.

"There were a lot of clubs after him this summer so we are really pleased to welcome him to the Club."

Nice said in a statement on their official website: "An agreement was reached on Saturday for the transfer of Jordan Amavi to Aston Villa (Premier League).

"Jordan Amavi did not travel to Belgium on Friday to compete in the second friendly match at Aiglons. While his teammates were on the road to Waregem, the young left-back (21) has gone to England.

"And an agreement was made on Saturday afternoon with Aston Villa for the transfer.''

Nice did not confirm the length of Amavi's contract nor the fee.
