Mourinho: Klopp's Liverpool contract extension is 'good news'

LONDON -- Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has said that Jurgen Klopp signing a new long-term deal at Liverpool is "good news" for the Premier League.

Klopp, who is ranked the No. 1 manager in ESPN FC 100, signed a contract extension, keeping him at Anfield until 2024.

"We want the best players, coaches and he's one of the best," Mourinho said in a news conference on Friday. "It's good news for the Premier League."

"Great news for Liverpool fans, for the players because it looks clear that they like each other and their relationship is very good."

Tottenham have kept just one clean sheet in the six games since Mourinho's arrival in November, and he lamented the lack of time he has to improve the team's defensive organisation.

"I complain every day with my staff [that we don't have time], I want to do a certain kind of training," he added.

"Defensive organisation takes a lot of energy to work on. It demands a lot from you. We're not having many [training sessions].

"I have to cut the intensity; I'm not happy at all with what I'm giving the players. I want more to give them. We are taking it step-by-step."

A heavily-rotated Spurs side lost to a 3-1 defeat against Bayern Munich on Wednesday, with Tottenham finishing runners-up in Group B ahead of the round-of-16 draw on Monday.

Spurs sit in seventh place, six points from Champions League qualification, as they travel to face Wolves in the Premier League on Sunday.

Left-back Ben Davies, winger Erik Lamela and midfielder Tanguy Ndombele are among those out injured for Sunday's fixture.
