Borussia Dortmund slipped up at Heidenheim on Friday for their first 0-0 draw in the Bundesliga since 2019 that kept them in fourth place in the standings.

After three league wins in 2024 the visitors, with close to 70% possession, could not crack open the Heidenheim defence and rarely managed to get into the box.

Donyell Malen had an effort ruled out for offside in the first half but Dortmund had no real attacking punch after the break despite three substitutions on the hour until Niclas Fuellkrug's shot in the 86th minute that was palmed wide.

Heidenheim responded with a huge chance of their own in stoppage time when Kevin Sessa's header narrowly missed the target.

The point meant Dortmund, whose last goalless draw was in October 2019 against Schalke 04, moved level on 37 points with VfB Stuttgart, who are ahead on goal difference in third place and face Freiburg on Saturday.

Bayer Leverkusen are in top spot on 49 points and travel to Darmstadt 98 while second-placed Bayern Munich, on 47, host Borussia Monchengladbach.
