Zlatan Ibrahimovic nets two penalties to become PSG's all-time top scorer

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has become Paris Saint-Germain's all-time leading goal scorer after netting two penalties in the French champions' 2-1 win over Marseille.

The Sweden captain's second goal during the Ligue 1 clash on Sunday was his 110th since joining PSG, one better than the previous club record held by former Portugal international Pauleta.

While it took Pauleta five years and 211 matches to score 109 goals for the club, Ibrahimovic needed just 137 games since joining from AC Milan in July 2012 to surpass that total.

The Malmo native reached the milestone shortly after his 34th birthday on Saturday as PSG continued their fine start to the season.

"It's always fantastic to beat a record, but I'm not going to stop now,"  Ibrahimovic said. "I want to keep going and do even better. We are living in a great period for the club and we will do everything to continue and keep making history."

Ibrahimovic had drawn to within one goal of Pauleta's record by striking in PSG's 4-1 victory at Nantes and, four days previously, he had ended a goal drought of over 500 minutes in PSG's 3-0 win over Guingamp.

He narrowly missed out on equalling the record in midweek when his late effort in the 3-0 win over Shakhtar was given as an own goal by Darijo Srna.

PSG chairman Nasser Al Khelaifi presented Ibrahimovic with a trophy commemorating the occasion after of the match.

Despite the result and the milestone, Ibrahimovic said he wanted his side to have more discipline.

"It wasn't an easy match. We were not disciplined enough," he said. "We were behind but we came back with two penalties. We had chances to kill the game off. A win is always important, especially against Marseille. I can't remember the last time we lost to them."

Manager Laurent Blanc said the hard-fought victory was one to savour.

"It was a great match, but very difficult," Blanc said. "I have to admit that Marseille played very well tonight. We managed to lift our game in the final minutes of the first half and wrest back the advantage with two justified penalties.

"Marseille could have equalised in the second half with a penalty of their own, but Kevin Trapp showed a lot of talent to make the save. We had chances to score a third goal. It was a very tough and now we will savour this victory."
