One of English football's most popular personalities, Peter Crouch has been well and truly welcomed by the people of Burnley after joining the club on transfer deadline day.
Ahead of his debut on Saturday, fans took care to warn Crouch by placing a sign on a low bridge in the town, with the spindly striker duly commending the locals for their thoughtfulness. The 38-year-old has also been the recipient of a special tribute usually reserved for the great and good of Burnley society by having a signature sausage created in his honour by a local butcher.
Heys Family Butcher, situated around the corner from Turf Moor, have produced the "Crouchie's Red Hot Robot," a reference to the former England international's trademark goal celebration.
"We usually only do celebratory sausages for players or managers when they have achieved something at the club but Crouchie coming to Burnley has really caught the imagination," the butchers wrote on Facebook. "Let's hope we see the Robot in full flow. It would be fantastic to see Peter down at the butchers. He would certainly get a warm welcome and some of his sausages to take home for his tea."
But Crouch isn't the first footballer to be immortalised in meat, with several of his contemporaries receiving a similar distinction.
