Marc Cucurella signs new Barcelona deal with €12 million clause

Marc Cucurella has agreed a new two-year deal with Barcelona after starring in the B team's promotion back to the second tier of Spanish football last season, the club have confirmed.

There is also an option for the contract to be extended for an additional two years if the left-back's progression continues as hoped.

As part of the new terms, Cucurella's release clause rises to €12 million, while it will further increase to €30m if the option is eventually taken to extend the length of the contract.

Cucurella, 18, began last season playing for the Juvenil A side (under-19s) and was a key part of their run to the UEFA Youth League semifinals.

His performances for Gabri Garcia's side earned him a call-up from Barca B coach Gerard Lopez and he went on to play an important role in their promotion to Segunda A.

He will begin the new season with Barca B in the Spain's second division but is expected to be one of the youngsters that go on the preseason tour of the United States with Ernesto Valverde's first team.

Barca will be relieved to have sorted Cucurella's future out, having lost fellow academy players Jordi Mboula and Eric Garcia to Monaco and Manchester City respectively this summer.

It comes after the confirmation last week that 19-year-old midfielder Carles Alena, who has already made his first-team debut, has agreed a new three-year deal at Camp Nou.
