Vancover Whitecaps and Toronto FC reach Canadian Championship final

The Vancouver Whitecaps will face Toronto FC in the final of the Canadian Championship after both teams prevailed in semifinals on Wednesday night.

The defending champions Whitecaps rallied from a two-goal deficit from last week's first leg to fend off the Ottawa Fury of the NASL with a 3-0 win.

Pedro Morales began the comeback with a penalty in the third minute after Nicolas Mezquida was fouled in the box, and Mezquida levelled the score on aggregate in the 20th minute with a goal of his own.

Octavio Rivero added a third goal following a corner kick early in the second half to put Vancouver through.

In the final, they will face Toronto FC, who managed a goalless draw away to the Montreal Impact to advance 4-2 on aggregate.

Montreal's Lucas Ontivero was sent off on the hour mark for head-butting Will Johnson.

"I didn't see the replay but you can't expect win a game with 10 men and score two goals," Impact coach Mauro Biello said. "I know we did the last time in Toronto, but you need to manage your emotions in those moments.

"I didn't see it -- they said it was a head-butt -- but in the end it wasn't the right thing and it hurt us."

Winning the cup competition is the only way for Canadian clubs to earn a spot in the CONCACAF Champions League.
