Uruguay's Vecino out of Copa with thigh injury

Uruguay midfielder Matias Vecino will miss the rest of the Copa America with a right thigh injury.

Uruguay's football federation confirmed the muscular injury on Monday, one day after Vecino left a 4-0 opening win over Ecuador in the 80th minute.

Vecino started every game at last year's World Cup in Russia and coach Oscar Tabarez deems him one of his team's key players.

Arsenal's Lucas Torreira is his most likely replacement for the remainder of the tournament in Brazil (all matches airing live in the U.S. on ESPN+).

Uruguay lead Group C with three points, while Ecuador has zero, with Tabarez's team playing Japan on Thursday.

Also out of the tournament is Colombia forward Luis Muriel, who hurt his left knee in his team's 2-0 Group B win over Argentina on Saturday. Colombian doctors said Muriel will need five to seven weeks to recover from the injury.
