United States, Ecuador to play Orlando friendly match on March 21

The United States men's national team will face Ecuador in Orlando on March 21 (8 p.m. ET, ESPN2), U.S. Soccer announced on Saturday.

The friendly will be Gregg Berhalter's third as coach and, falling as it does during a FIFA window, the USMNT's contingent of European players will be expected to feature. Five days after playing Ecuador, the U.S. will meet Chile in Houston.

"Ecuador has an experienced, athletic team that will provide a good test for our group. We will use this opportunity to continue to build on the foundation of the team as we develop our style of play," Berhalter said. "Playing in Orlando City Stadium is a great soccer experience -- the atmosphere is fantastic."

The U.S. has won four of its previous 14 games against Ecuador; in the last meeting, goals from Clint Dempsey and Gyasi Zardes secured a 2-1 win in the quarterfinals of the 2016 Copa America Centenario.

Berhalter's first competitive matches as coach will be when the Americans defend their CONCACAF Gold Cup title. They open on June 18 at St. Paul, Minnesota, play four days later at Cleveland and complete the group stage June 26 at Kansas City, Kansas.
