Tottenham's Mourinho: Kane ahead of schedule in injury recovery

LONDON -- Tottenham forward Harry Kane is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a hamstring injury and could return for as many as five Premier League games this season, manager Jose Mourinho has said.

Kane limped off during Spurs' 1-0 defeat to Southampton on New Year's Day, with manager Mourinho previously saying that he could be ruled out until the end of the season.

However, Kane has shown positive signs during his recovery and Mourinho has said that he could return in time to help his side fight for Champions League qualification, but refused to give a fixture to target for Kane's return.

"[He is] a little bit ahead of schedule," Mourinho said in a news conference on Friday. "[He] gives me a little bit of hope that instead of [returning for] one or two matches, he could be three, four or five.

"I'm speculating a little bit. He is feeling good. Everything is going well. Every time he has a little problem, he is the kind of guy that doesn't accept protocol."

Mourinho said that forward Son Heung-Min, who is in South Korea recovering from surgery for a fractured arm, is also likely to return before the end of the season, despite Mourinho having previously said he could miss the rest of the campaign.

"There's a good possibility that before the end of the season we have Harry and Son back playing together," he added. "[Son is] another hope, but we are far from it. He's coming back to England very soon."

Son suffered the arm injury in the early stages of a 3-2 win over Aston Villa earlier this month, a game in which the winger scored two goals, including his side's last-gasp winner.

Spurs face Wolves at home in the Premier League on Sunday, with both clubs in the hunt for Champions League qualification in light of Manchester City's two-year UEFA competition ban, with the this season's fifth-place side possibly able to qualify.

Spurs will also be without defender Ryan Sessegnon and midfielder Moussa Sissoko, who are both ruled out through injury, but will likely include winger Erik Lamela in the matchday squad.
