Hassan Sunny tips Hariss and Safuwan for ASEAN spots in Thai league

With the additional ASEAN player slot for next season's 2016 Premier League of Thailand (PLT) in the pipeline, Singapore international goalkeeper Hassan Sunny believes at least two of his countrymen could be headed to the kingdom.

Hassan, 32, became the first Singaporean to play in the PLT when he joined Army United from S.League giants Warriors FC in 2015.

His stellar performances between made him a fan favourite, and he has continued the same vein of form this year for the club.

There could be more Southeast Asian players set to join the Singapore international in the PLT next season after sources told ESPN FC that the the Football Association of Thailand have already decided on the new foreign player quota. It is likely to be three from outside Asia, one AFC and one Southeast Asian per club for 2017.

"If this comes true, then it's definitely great news for all countries like Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam," Hassan told ESPN FC.

"There are many players from around Southeast Asia who are capable of playing in the Thai league, and I'm pretty excited to see who are the ones who will be coming next year."

While the keeper tipped his Singapore teammates Hariss Harun and Safuwan Baharudin to make the move to Thailand, he has warned that any Southeast Asian player who is brought in must be prepared to deliver top performances, week in and week out.

"Before even mentioning any names, it's important to stress that the expectations of foreign players here are very, very high," he said.

"If you don't perform in a few games, then out you go during the mid-season transfer window. But I'm sure some of our boys [from Singapore] will succeed if given a chance to play here.

"Hariss can definitely fit into any club here. He's technically good and physically strong so he won't have any issues, but he is enjoying his career with JDT [Johor Darul Ta'zim].

"Another Singaporean who will do well at a Thai club is Safuwan. He is good in the air and has a smart footballing brain. He'll definitely score a few goals if he plays here."
