European soccer recap: Arsenal, Man City, Barcelona, Bayern all win

The first Saturday after the October international break provided plenty to talk about across Europe's top leagues. The big story probably involves Arsenal, who took top spot in the Premier League with a hard-fought 1-0 win at Fulham. A second-half goal from Leandro Trossard proved enough in another cagey Gunners performance this season.

Manchester City kept the pressure on with a 2-0 win at home to Everton, with Erling Haaland scoring twice in five second-half minutes -- and wasting several clear-cut chances in injury time to complete his hat trick. Elsewhere, Chelsea's 3-0 win at Nottingham Forest proved the final game for Ange Postecoglou as manager, with the former Spurs boss relieved of his duties shortly after full-time by Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis.

Elsewhere in Europe, Barcelona grabbed a dramatic 2-1 win at home to Girona to put them top of LaLiga -- Real Madrid go to Getafe on Sunday -- thanks to Ronald Araújo's injury-time finish. In Der Klassiker, Bayern Munich held on to beat rivals Borussia Dortmund 2-1 at the Allianz Arena, with goals from Harry Kane and Michael Olise enough to withstand Julian Brandt's late volley for the visitors.

Here's how an action-packed Saturday played out across Europe. Tune in Sunday morning for Liverpool vs. Manchester United, and so much more.
