Man United captain Fernandes to consider future after Euros

Bruno Fernandes has said he will consider his future at Manchester United, but not until after this summer's European Championship with Portugal.

The United captain insists he is fully focused on the FA Cup Final against Manchester City on May 25 and competing at the Euros in Germany.

Amid media speculation that he could leave United, when asked about his future, Fernandes, 29, told Dazn Portugal: "I don't have thoughts for other things at the moment. It doesn't just depend on me.

"So, if you want me to be very honest, if I have to think about not continuing in the Premier League, it won't be until after the Euros.

"We can end the season by winning the FA Cup, then we have the European Championship, which is very important for us.

"Nothing will take my focus away from this end of the championship, the FA Cup and the European Championship. There is nothing more important than that at the moment."

Fernandes, who is in his fifth season at United, said he does feel wanted at Old Trafford.

"A player always has to want to be here, but at the same time, you have to want him to stay. At the moment, I feel there's that on both sides" Fernandes said.

"I'm not thinking too much about the future, not least because, obviously, this season hasn't been at the level I'd hoped for, either individually or collectively, so far."

In March, Fernandes said he had met with United's new owners and told them he wanted to stay at the club, where he is under contract until June 2026.

However, he added: "I want to be competitive, I want to compete, I want to win."

Fernandes has lifted just one trophy, the Carabao Cup last season, since joining United from Sporting CP in January 2020 in a deal worth up to €80 million ($85m).

He has scored 15 goals and set up 11 more in 45 appearances for the United this season.

Erik ten Hag's side finished bottom of their Champions League group and are sixth in the Premier League with four games remaining.

United have an option to extend Fernandes' deal for a further season.
