Copa Argentina tie between Racing and Mitre postponed after clashes

The Copa Argentina match between Racing and Mitre, scheduled for Wednesday, has been postponed by police for "strict security reasons."

The Agency for the Prevention of Violence in Sport (Aprevide) in Buenos Aires Province said in a letter that the match at Quilmes stadium had to be delayed.

It followed violent scenes on Monday when rival members of Racing's "Barra Brava" ultras group fought gun battles near their home stadium.

La Nacion reported that two people were injured in the clashes.

A statement from Racing said: "We respect and value the decision taken by Aprevide in view of the safety of the spectators.

"We hope that, in a short time, this game can take place so that we can all watch and support our beloved Racing and be close to our colours."
