Barcelona loan Alen Halilovic to Sporting Gijon for upcoming season

Barcelona starlet Alen Halilovic will spend the 2015-16 season on loan at fellow La Liga side Sporting Gijon.

The 19-year-old Croatian playmaker was widely expected to be sent out on loan given Barca B's relegation last term, and had been linked with a number of different clubs including Celta Vigo and Hamburg.

However it was Sporting who announced an agreement for the former Dinamo Zagreb player on Friday.

He will join the newly promoted side for training on Saturday, the club said, though AS reported he is unlikely to play on Sunday against Real Madrid after dealing with the flu this week.

"It will be good for the kid, from a sporting perspective, to play a year there," his agent Zoran Stojadinovic told AS.

Sporting, who are back in the Primera Division after three seasons in the second flight, have been unable to bring in many players this summer because of continuing financial issues.

Former Barca B striker Antonio Sanabria, on loan from Roma, and midfielder Omar Mascarell, on loan from Real Madrid, are the only two other summer arrivals at El Molinon.

Mascarell will also miss out against his parent club because of a clause in his loan agreement.
