West Ham youngster makes claim for shortest loan spell ever

West Ham youngster Elliot Lee has been making waves, scoring goals for fun in the club's reserve team of late, but it appears the 19-year-old striker may have just suffered the misfortune of registering the shortest loan spell ever in the history of football.

Lee, son of ex-Newcastle midfielder Rob, finalised a temporary switch to Southend United on Thursday morning but was back at his parent club by lunchtime after suffering an injury during his very first training session at the Shrimpers.

Southend boss Phil Brown told BBC Essex: "The paperwork was done at 9:30 on Friday morning.

"We started the session at 10:30am -- and at 11:05am he pulled up with a hamstring injury."

Sure enough, it emerged that Lee had torn a hamstring, meaning his loan deal was scrapped, and the young striker returned to Upton Park having spent a total of 95 minutes as a Southend player.

Now, we don't have the figures to hand, but surely that's got to be some kind of record.

Even Ali Dia managed longer than that at Southampton and he wasn't actually a professional footballer!
