Victory's record W-League win, Jets crash

Melbourne Victory have bounced back from a derby defeat to move closer to a W-League semi-final berth with a club record 7-0 rout of an underwhelming Newcastle.

Annalie Longo and Darian Jenkins both scored doubles on Sunday as Victory put behind them a hefty 4-0 loss against newly crowned premiers Melbourne City.

Victory took charge from the outset at Newcastle No.2 Sportsground, with New Zealand international midfielder Longo taking advantage of some ponderous defending to score twice in the first seven minutes.

Victory dominated the opening half against a flat Newcastle and it was little surprise when Dowie and Jenkins scored in quick succession to add to the advantage before halftime.

Jenkins collected her double on the hour mark and an own-goal from Jets defender Cassidy Davis rubbed salt into the wounds, before Melina Ayres extended the margin late on.

Victory's previous biggest win was 6-0 in 2013 against the same opponents.

Brisbane kept their finals hopes alive with a 5-0 win over Canberra United on Sunday evening at Lions Stadium.

Early goals from Carson Pickett and Rylee Baisden set the Roar on their way in a sometimes feisty contest.

Pickett and Baisden both completed doubles with Shea Connors also netting as the Roar finished strongly with three goals in the final eight minutes, providing a timely boost to their goal difference.

Leena Khamis, who scored the W-League's first goal in 2008, captained Canberra in what was expected to be her last match in the competition.

Fifth-placed Brisbane will have to knock over runaway leaders Melbourne City in next week's final round to have any hope of tipping Victory or, more realistically, Western Sydney out of a semi-final berth.

Victory will face Sydney FC next weekend with the winner guaranteed a home semi-final.

Sydney FC missed a golden chance to shore up second on Saturday with a shock 2-1 loss to struggling Perth in Wollongong.

Morgan Andrews scored in each half while, at the other end of the pitch, goalkeeper Eliza Campbell was in inspired form to help the Glory to reverse last season's grand final result between the pair.

The round opened on Thursday, as City locked up their second premiership with a confident 4-0 rout of the Wanderers.

Matildas fullback Ellie Carpenter bagged a rare double as an imperious City secured a 10th-successive win.
