Foord set to join Matildas' England exodus

Caitlin Foord looks set to be the latest Matilda to depart the W-League in favour of England with the forward confirming her departure from Sydney FC.

Foord has been heavily linked to FA Women's Super League leaders Arsenal, who are coached by fellow Australian Joe Montemurro.

Foord confirmed on social media that Thursday night's scoreless draw with Brisbane Roar was her final game in sky blue.

"I say this with a heavy heart but Thursday night was my last game for this season," Foord wrote on Instagram.

"Although you won't seen me in the sky blue colours, I will however be Sydney FC's number 1 fan and hopeful that they will go all the way and lift that trophy at the end of season again.

"I will be able to announce my future club very soon."

Foord, who can play as a central or wide forward and also has experience at full-back, would have some familiar faces in the FAWSL.

Matildas captain Sam Kerr is at Chelsea, Hayley Raso joined Everton this week, while uncapped teenage Australian Jacynta Galabadaarachchi is at West Ham.

Montemurro confirmed Arsenal's interest in Foord earlier this week.

"Caitlin Foord's been a player of interest for a while," Montemurro said.

"She's a player that we are interested in and there's a couple of other elements that we're looking at also.

"I don't want to speculate on things that aren't happening, that aren't solid. But we are going to be bringing in some elements during the transfer window."
