Ladder not pretty reading for Perth Glory

Perth Glory defender Gregory Wuthrich says he's been trying to avoid looking at the ladder while the club's lean start to the A-League season stretches on.

Glory won the Premiers Plate with two games to spare last season, but currently find themselves languishing in seventh spot with just one win to their name.

Perth face a daunting period in which they face both Melbourne Victory and Melbourne City in consecutive Friday night matches at AAMI Park.

Glory are already nine points adrift of second spot, and can't afford to lose any more ground if they are to be a serious title threat.

Wuthrich is in his first season at Glory, and is confident the team is on the verge of turning things around.

But he's struggling to look at the ladder in its current state.

"I try to avoid a little bit, because it doesn't look so nice at the moment," Wuthrich said.

"It's just better that we focus on our game and then go from there."

Glory posted 12 clean sheets last season, but they are yet to record one this campaign.

The defence was caught napping several times in last week's 3-1 home loss to Sydney, and Wuthrich says they're desperate to keep a clean slate this Friday night against Victory.

"We lost it for maybe 10 minutes in the second half last week, and against a team like Sydney they punish us for those mistakes," Wuthrich said.

"For us it's important to get a clean sheet as soon as possible, and hopefully on Friday we can do that."

Defender Alex Grant is available to return after serving his one-match ban, but Osama Malik (hamstring) will miss a third straight week.

Victory are struggling in 10th spot with just one win and two draws to show from seven games.
